It is hard for me to come to terms with the fact that I have one and a half year olds. Like what? I swear they were just little four pounders in the NICU. It seriously is so crazy how fast time flies.
I thought I would do a Knox and Liam update since I haven't in a while. They are such a hit on Instagram!
LATELY:
They are little sponges right now learning all of the things! They still babble a lot, but they know lots of animal sounds, and can definitely tell us "no" when we ask if they want their diapers changed. Ha! They understand more of what we're saying now too, so that's been fun! They walk (almost run) everywhere, and still fight over toys.
Liam has also been trying to sing (as he points his finger), "no more monkeys jumping on the bed". It's SO freaking cute!
We also took them to the park for the first time recently. I know, seems weird that they've never been right?! We have swings on our back porch so we haven't felt the need before now. Mostly they enjoyed walking around and exploring, but Knox was my dare devil. He liked the slide SO much! I can't wait for more park dates this summer, and definitely a family picnic. Seriously, I have been talking about having family picnics before Chris and I even had kids. Just one of those things for me! Sweet memories.
Oh, and since the last update we have completely experienced the "poop in the bathtub" phase. OH. MY. GOSH. I'll leave it at that.
SCHEDULE:
Between 15 and 18 months they weren't sleeping great during the day, so we thought it might be time to drop a nap. We gave it a try and it was most definitely time. We're now down to one nap a day, and it ranges from 2-3 hours. I thought I would struggle with one nap a day but honestly it's been wonderful! Having a couple of hours to get stuff done while they are napping is great. It also helps with my sanity if I'm being honest.
Keeping with the sleeping theme, we've also had to lower Liam's bed ALL the way down. Of course he was trying to climb out of it. Knox is still pretty chill in his crib (boy loves his sleep), so he's sittin' a little higher than brother. Other than that the schedule is the pretty much the same. They wake up between 6:45-7:30, take one nap midday, and go to bed around 7-7:30. All chaos in between!
CURRENTLY INTO:
They have been obsessed with balls for a little while now. It's all we hear - "ball, ball, baaaalllll"! Y'all, they're just so chatty now. I can't get over how much they are growing.
My mom also got them these lawn mowers that they have enjoyed lately. I can't wait to send them outside with Chris so they can "help" mow the yard. Ha - score! OH, and another thing they really enjoy - the large legos. Another thing my Mom got them and they LOVE. Liam can sit forever and put the pieces together. And Knox enjoys knocking down what Liam put together. You know, y'all just thought Knox was the sweet one. In RHOBH (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) terms, Knox is a sniper from the side. For real!
CHALLENGES:
I can't give an update without sharing the challenges that come along with it. Just as I knew it would, the toddler phase is giving me a run for my money. The current challenge is learning how to deal with whining and clinginess in a positive way. I have been reading and watching a lot of videos on positive parenting, and with being a new Mom it has helped a ton. It is easy to get frustrated with constant whining, but I remind myself that it is just another phase, and every day is a new day. It also helps that Chris is so laid back... he takes the whining like a champ. Me, not so much. But also, why are they more whiny and clingy with me? That's the million dollar question. Moms have it hard, y'all!
But one day they are clingy, and the next they are independent. And then I'm sad because they don't "need" me anymore. Ha! Being a Mom is so confusing.
Overall I am taking life day by day and enjoying my two little blessings. This is the life I prayed for, and although its tiring and hard at times, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Until next time.
